Several employees at Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) have been halted from reporting to work, following an Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigation on the said officials.

ACB Director- General, Reyneck Matemba, explained that the investigations are in suspicion of breach of recruitment procedures, as the investigation is checking recruitment from the last 5 years.

In similar news, the ACB also blocked about 30 people from working at Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) in April, stating that their recruitment process which was allegedly in violation of the Corrupt Practices Act. While the blocked people took Matemba to court for the blocking, he revealed that  figures show that 533 candidates were invited for interviews; 487 attended the interviews and 125 candidates were selected as successful. “The list of 125 candidates was sent to the National Intelligence Service for vetting. MRA felt that it was taking time and went ahead to offer jobs to some candidates without the vetting,” Matemba said.
