The Medical Aid Society of Malawi (Masm) has registered a 21% drop in claims from 102% in 2017 to 81% by June 2019, as confirmed by Masm board chairperson, John Biziwick, during the firms, Annual General Meeting (AGM).

According to Biziwick, there has been a growth of about K10, 600,000 in claims enabling the society to achieve a surplus in 18 months. Earlier this year, Masm announced that it has reviewed its contribution rates, increasing by 15% with effect from 1st July. According to a circular signed by Masm Chief Executive Officer, Sydney Chikoti, the 34th Annual General Meeting of the Society had resolved to change the financial year of the Society from January-December to July-June with effect from the 20l8/2019 period in order to align the Society’s operational objectives.

However, during the latest AGM, Chikoti said that some members complained over poor services in some hospitals outside the country.
