BLANTYRE CITY COUNCIL TO REDUCE TRAFFIC BY 50% – Malawi News Online

In an effort to combat traffic conjestion, Blantyre City Council (BCC) has revealed that it will introduce a one-way traffic system. BCC Director of City Planning Costly Chanza briefed the press, saying that the development will reduce traffic conjestion by 50%.

Part of the reduction of traffic involves BCC, constructing bypasses between Ndirande and Makhetha, Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital and Kamba, Chichiri and Chinyonga, Likhubula and Chirimba, Namiwawa and Sunnyside. “We would like to have a one way traffic system in Blantyre; all vehicles coming from Limbe, will be using Haile Selassie Road while all vehicles getting out of the city will be using Glynn Jones Road” said Chanza.

Chanza also added that BCC intends to construct a multi-storey car park between Standard Bank and Livingstonia Towers in Blantyre CBD. In similar news, Lilongwe City Council (LCC) launched a campaign that is curbing wrong parking, whereby found vehicles and motorcycles are clamped motorcycles. LCC Public Relations Officer (PRO), Tamara Chafunya told Malawi News Agency (Mana) that the campaign follows after the council observed  the increasing disorder in parking of vehicles and motorcycles in the city.
